Mafia III is currently in development at 2K Czech for the PlayStation 4 and next Xbox, according to a Eurogamer Czech report.
2K Czech‘s most recent release was tennis simulator Top Spin 4, which launched in March 2011.
A report from earlier this year suggested that 2K Czech was assisting Rockstar North with development on Grand Theft Auto V. A Rockstar representative denied this claim, plainly stating that the two studios are not collaborating on anything.
The analyst consensus is that the next Xbox (recently confirmed by Microsoft) and the PS4 will be on store shelves for holiday 2013. As for their capabilities, GameStop CEO Paul Raines said last month that these consoles will provide “unbelievable new capabilities for rendering, speeds, et cetera.”
11 positions are available at 2K Czech, including one for a systems designer. These job listings say the developer is working on its “next AAA title”.
2k Czech game development company declined to comment when contacted by Eurogamer.cz.
In March 2K Czech company was rumoured to be helping Rockstar Games with the development of GTA 5, working on cutscenes and general gameplay. According to VG247, the two studios were trading tech secrets in an attempt to turn Mafia into a monster game franchise.
Both Microsoft and Sony are yet to announce their next generation plans, but consoles from both companies are reportedly set for launch late next year.
